Can you find real love when you’ve always got your head in the clouds?

Maybell Parish has always been a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. But living in her own world has long been preferable to dealing with the disappointments of real life. So when Maybell inherits a charming house in the Smokies from her Great-Aunt Violet, she seizes the opportunity to make a fresh start.

Yet when she arrives, it seems her troubles have only just begun. Not only is the house falling apart around her, but she isn’t the only inheritor: she has to share everything with Wesley Koehler, the groundskeeper who’s as grouchy as he is gorgeous–and it turns out he has a very different vision for the property’s future.

Convincing the taciturn Wesley to stop avoiding her and compromise is a task more formidable than the other dying wishes Great-Aunt Violet left behind. But when Maybell uncovers something unexpectedly sweet beneath Wesley’s scowls, and as the two slowly begin to let their guard down, they might learn that sometimes the smallest steps outside one’s comfort zone can lead to the greatest rewards.” (Goodreads)

I’ve come to the realization that this author just doesn’t work for me. It’s a sad fact that I have to deal with as each of her books have sounded great but I can never connect to the story or characters to actually care about what is going on.

This book in particular had all of the elements to make a great book and one that I should love but I just couldn’t do it. Some of the events that happen to Maybell are just too convenient and I didn’t like Wesley. He was kind of a wet blanket.

I did like the idea of the reno and them both getting the house. It was a cool concept and one I have only seen in a movie so far. I know this read has been popular with other readers and I’m definitely sad I’m not joining the group.

Overall, this would be a great read for any reader. It’s not just a book I could get into unfortunately.

  1. I just read a 5 star review for Twice Shy yesterday and I”m all excited because I have it on my kindle and I want to read it. I hope I do enjoy it more than you did. That’s what makes reading so interesting, what one person loves, another can’t get into. Oh well!
