Weekly Update | 10-23-22

Hello Lovely Bookworms!

This week has been pretty busy but we got to see family yesterday so that was nice! We also ate a lot because one side took us out for breakfast and the other for lunch, ha. I won’t complain though because free food!

I haven’t read anything over the weekend but that usually happens and it’s nice to get to spend time with people. Plus, I had to go admire the chickens as it was so nice outside! I even have them carving my pumpkin for me.

Other than that, everything is about the same.

I hope you all have been enjoying your weekend!

Friday Favorites: Book Recommendations

Book Tag

Hello, fellow bookworms!

Today’s post is a tag that was created by Something of the Book and she has a whole list of Friday Favorites to follow.

Book recommendations are something that I love! It’s awesome to see what others have liked so much that they want to share those books with the whole world! I have books that I recommend all the time and if you haven’t already read them then I suggest doing so!

Here is my list of books I would recommend you must read:

1.) The Illuminae Files
This will always be my number one most recommended series ever!

2.) A Court of Thorns and Roses
This got me back into reading last year and even my husband read and enjoyed it!

3.) Bloodleaf
This recently came out and I absolutely fell in love with this story. I hope more people will pick this one up.

4.) Stalking Jack the Ripper Series
I was hesitant to pick this one up end of last year but fell in love with the characters and the suspense!

5.) Caraval Series
Another I was hesitant to pick up but so glad I did! Definitely a must read.

6.) The Last Namsara/The Caged Queen
Seriously such an underrated book series. Go read them now!

7.) House of Salt and Sorrows
This doesn’t come out until August 6th but I am obsessed!

8.) The Bear and the Nightingale Series
I love, love, love this one! Vasya is such a great character!

9.) The Witchland Series
I read Truthwitch and the rest for the Faecrate Bloodwitch box but I am totally obsessed with the characters and cried when I read Bloodwitch.

10.) Roar
Definitely underrated and I am so excited for the second book coming in August! Now is your chance to start this one.

And there you have it! 10 books/series I would recommend because they are amazing!

Have you read any of these? Which ones have you enjoyed?

Three Dark Crowns: Book Review

thegeekishbrunette review

28374007.jpgTitle: Three Dark Crowns
Author: Kendare Blake
Genre: YA Fantasy
Rating: 2 stars

->Click for Synopsis<-

On the island of Fennbirn, triples are always born and each are heirs to the crown. Each girl possesses a different magic: poisoner, naturalist, elementalist. Once the girls turn 16 they must each fight to death for the crown. Only one can stand.

I had heard pretty good things about this book and with the fourth one coming out this year I figured it was time to give it a read. Honestly, it wasn’t what I was expecting for multiple reasons and it lead to me not liking the book.

When it came to the characters, I didn’t connect with either of the sisters even though each one has their own point of view. They felt flat as there wasn’t much character development. The side characters were also not that interesting and were mainly focused with being in relationships.

The plot lacked when it came to any action. It felt like the plot was more focused on relationships than the sisters killing each other and it made it hard to get through. The pacing was also quite slow and made it hard to want to continue.

Overall, it was very hard to like anything about this book. I wanted to love it as the synopsis makes it sound amazing but it really lacked the excitement I was looking for. I will continue by reading the second book and hope that it gets better. Hopefully that one won’t be so disappointing!
