Marin Cole has never:
Seen the ocean
Climbed a mountain
Taken a risk on love
….But if her sister’s plan works, she just might do all three.

Ever since her journalist mother died on assignment, Marin has played it safe, refusing to set foot outside the state of Tennessee. Her wild-child younger sister, Sadie, has trotted the globe as a photographer, living off of art and adrenaline.

When Sadie returns from a tough assignment abroad and looks a little worse for wear, Marin reluctantly agrees to a sisters’ spa weekend on the tropical island of Saba. But her lifelong fear of travel is affirmed when Sadie misses the flight, Marin’s luggage gets mixed up with another passenger’s, and an episode of turbulence sends her hurtling into the lap of Lucas Tsai, the handsome stranger who stole her sister’s seat.

For the first time in a long time, Marin has to step outside of her comfort zone as she explores the island with Lucas and learns what she’s been missing out on. With each breathtaking new experience, Marin gets closer to her real self, the man she’s falling for, and the heart-wrenching truth about why she’s there in the first place.” (Goodreads)

From the cover and even from most of the blurb, I figured this would be a nice rom-com but there was so much more packed into this beautiful book. I didn’t know how emotional it would make me but there were plenty of tears shed and they were all worth it!

The book is split into two point-of-views: Marin and Sadie. Both sisters are completely different in looks and even their personalities. Marin would rather stay in and never leave Tennessee and worries about her sister more often than not. Sadie travels the world in search of great photos for her job. I honestly enjoyed reading about both, especially the antics of Sadie. She is a wild one!

From the beginning of the trip of a lifetime, which was supposed to be with her sister, Marin is pushed into new experiences from the get-go. There are so many hilarious moments because of it and the plane ride had me dying. And of course, there is the introduction of Lucas. The hot guy who stole her sister’s seat.

When it came to the plot, I was hooked. There are magical moments on this island and Marin is finally learning what it means to be her true self. One without worry and one that takes risk. It’s amazing how our siblings know exactly what we need even when we don’t. The island is also filled with a great cast of minor characters that help Marin in whatever way they can and become friends along the way.

Even though this book is about finding oneself, there is also heartache found throughout the plot as well. As the book gets going, I had a thought in the back of my mind on how it would go and even though I had prepared myself, it still wasn’t enough. So many tears! And even though I was an emotional mess, I loved it all because there was still hope and a bright future ahead.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It’s not often I find a book that makes me emotional but I like it because it makes the book that much more special to me. The romance was sweet and had me smiling. I know I didn’t take about it but it’s fun to be surprised when you read it! I’d highly recommend adding this one to your tbr.

I started reading Good Girl, Bad Blood (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder #2) by Holly Jackson last night and am enjoying it so far!

The audiobook I am starting today is Matilda by Roald Dahl. I have actually never read it before so I am looking forward to it since I always enjoyed the movie.

I will be listening to Hero at the Fall (Rebel of the Sands #3) by Alwyn Hamilton. I am looking forward to finishing up this series!

I’ll be reading Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway. I picked this up last year and it is a YA Contemporary. It will be a nice break from the fantasy I have been reading.

Top Ten Tuesday: Opening Lines for Random Books on My Shelf I Haven’t Read Yet

Toptentuesday2

Hello, Lovely Bookworms!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018.

Today’s prompt is Opening Lines. I am going to just pick random books on my shelves that I haven’t read yet and we will just see what those first lines are!

1.) “History might be whittled down until all that remains are shining fables of fairy magic and curse-defying kisses. War go unmentioned in the polished children’s tales of the two girls with rose petal lips and hair of spun gold, the girls whom I was tasked with making queens.” – Kingdom of Ash and Briars by Hannah West

2.) “A year had passed, but the nightmare began the same way it always did. Princess Anatolia crouched, hidden in the icy shadow of Southern Wall, panting through waves of fear that threatened to cloud her vision.” – Rise of the Dragon Moon by Gabrielle K. Byrne

3.) “Do we really have to play this game?” Delaney asked, the question coming out halfheartedly. She already knew what the response would be. “Come on,” Mariana pushed. “I’m nervous.” – Amid Stars and Darkness by Chani Lynn Feener

4.) “Pale fog filled he canyons and valleys of the Gray Range. The Dragon’s Tongue, Great Blade, and other peaks towered defiantly above the mist, tips raised toward the evening sun.” – The Dwarves by Markus Heitz

5.) “I feel the stars. Energy pulses against my skin, murmuring secrets about this small galaxy, about orbits and alignments and asteroids streaming in space.” – Honor Among Thieves by Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre

6.) “Millie Gerdavey cheated on her boyfriend again. But it’s OK. No one needs to know, right? And no, she’s not going to tell Jack (‘Obviously!’), and she doesn’t want to be with Leo (‘That muppet?’). It was just a one-time thing. Again.” – A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard

7.) “She’d never killed before tonight. “Stay back,” her sister hissed. Jana pressed against the stone wall of the villa.” – Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

8.) “”Dead!” a woman screamed. “It’s dead!” My heart shot into my throat, and shocked cries rippled through the station.” – Something Strange And Deadly by Susan Dennard

9.) “”Block!” “Where?” “I can’t tell you where –you’re supposed to follow my movements!” – Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

10.) “Some people say that all the world’s a stage. But here, a shaky scaffold in the paddies, Can hold a universe inside an hour.” – For A Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig

Weekly Update (2/1/20)

weeklyupdate2

Hello Lovely Bookworms!

Welcome to February! I’m not read for it, ha.

January went by too quickly. I did get a lot of reading done though and I did post my wrap-up this morning.

I also managed to finish everything on my loose TBR. I haven’t been doing them lately but with wanting to finish series and arcs I have, I kind of need a guideline so I don’t go too far from what I need to do.

Hopefully February will be a good month.
