Friday Favorites: Books That Were Recommended to Me

Hello, fellow bookworms!

Today’s post is a tag that was created by Something of the Book and she has a whole list of Friday Favorites to follow.

Most of my favorite books were recommended either by my sister or bookstagram. Bookstagram is the reason my tbr list will never be complete, haha.

Here is my list of books recommended to me that I absolutely loved:

1.) The Illuminae Files

I mean, are we really surprised by this? Haha. My sister recommended this and I refused to listen to it for the longest time because I was like, yeah I’m going to like it. Well, I was wrong. I am obsessed!

 
2.) A Court of Thorns and Roses

This was recommended by my sister and it is what got me out of not reading for many years. I didn’t read the second book for the longest time because I knew Tamlin was going to look like the bad guy. I love him, still do. If people can love the Darkling than I can love Tamlin!

 

3.) The Winternight Trilogy

I had seen everyone recommending The Bear and the Nightingale. I am so glad I picked it up because it was so good! It is one of my top favorite series and will always be. Vasya is amazing.

Friday Favorites: Plot Twists

 

Hello, fellow book lovers!

Today’s post is a tag that was created by Something of the Book and she has a whole list of Friday Favorites to follow.

Today is all about plot twists! I love a good plot twist, as I am sure anyone does! They can really add to a book. I will be listing what I love in a plot twist. So, here we go!

1.) Not Expected
I love when a plot twist isn’t expected. Sometimes it is hard to keep reading a book that is quite obvious.

2.) A Character Turns Out To Be Someone Else
This is literally one of my favorite twists! This happens a couple of times in An Ember in the Ashes and each time I was very surprised by the information.

3.) Death/Resurrection
I know that it is sad when a beloved character dies but it when it happens it is quite surprising. It is even more surprising after you grieve and they come back either by resurrection or the other characters jumping to conclusions. Either way it’s all great!

4.) Betrayal
Who doesn’t love a good betrayal? It adds to character development and adds a great shock factor!

And that’s it! I think, haha. I am sure I will think of more later to add but this what I got for now.

Friday Favorites: TBR Books

Today’s post is a tag that was created by Something of the Book and she has a whole list of Friday Favorites to follow.

When it comes to loving books it is always followed by a long tbr! Sometimes I feel like I am swimming in mine but I’d rather that than swimming in bills, ha.

The prompt for today is all about our tbr books and the ones we know we are going to love but just keep sitting on that tbr shelf. I know I have a few!

1.) The Hobbit
I started this book many many years ago and know I will love it but I get caught up in new releases that this just sits on the back burner.

2.) Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Yes, I know. Blasphemy! I love the movies and have been collecting merchandise for this fandom for quite some time. I have multiple editions of each book and I just need to buckle down and do it! I am hoping to get to these books once I finish the Game of Thrones series and have more time for larger books.

3.) Contagion
I received this in a book box last July and started to read it but then found myself reading another book. I have heard great things and really want to get to this soon!

4.) Warcross
My sister read this one last year and said I should it. I haven’t found time yet but since I have made it a goal to read 1 to 2 books I already own each month this year I think I will be able to get to it.

 

It’s so easy to get behind when it comes to our tbr since new books are coming out all the time. I am happy that I have managed to read some on it so far this year and with it being just the beginning of the year I am hoping to finish so much more!

Friday Favorites: Confessions of Love

Hello, fellow book lovers!

Today’s post is a tag that was created by Something of the Book and she has a whole list of Friday Favorites to follow.

The topic for today was a little tricky when I was trying to think of examples. So, instead of writing about someone confessing their love in a book, I will be confessing my love for some of my favorite book boyfriends!

In no particular order:

1.) Dax (The Caged Queen)
He won my heart over by the end of the book and I just need more of him because he is kind, full of charm, and wants what is best for the one he loves.

2.) Mal (Grishaverse)
I know most people don’t like him and that’s okay. More for me, right? Haha. He only cared about Alina so much even if it meant letting her go and even then, he would still be by her side proctecting her. *swoon*

3.) Morozko (The Winternight Trilogy)
He will literally be on every list I create when it comes to book boyfriends, favorite couples, and confessions of love. When he cares for someone he doesn’t let them not grow to their full potential and even when he walks away thinking he is doing the right thing, love knows no bounds. He tries to be hard on the outside but deep down he is just a cute wintry teddy bear.

4.) Tamlin (Acotar)
Some may ask, “What is this guy doing here?”. It’s a valid question and my answer is I will always have a soft spot for this High Lord. I loved him in the first book. I knew what was coming in the next books and felt that he got the short end of the stick. Sure, he makes a few mistakes but if people can like The Darkling then I am allowed this one!

5.) Thomas Cresswell (Stalking Jack the Ripper series)
He full of banter, charm, and sophistication. What’s not to love about him? He makes his intentions known and I like that about him. He is always there by your side when you need him and will help you solve any crime. He is the perfect partner!

BookishStarDesigns Magical Beasts Unboxing

Hello, fellow book lovers!

I am back with another unboxing and this time it is for one of my favorite shops called BookishStarDesigns! In the summer Laura started to do quarterly rice bag boxes and my sister has purchased them all, but we shared her fall one and she gifted me the winter box for Christmas! (Seriously, best sister ever!) Laura always outdoes herself with each box and the prints she picks are gorgeous. If you aren’t sure what rice bags are used for my sister has compiled a list of uses that you can find over on her blog! For the winter box, it contained a large and medium rice bag, eye mask rice bag, and a small bag of loose leaf tea which my daughter took the sticker off of. I went with scented but you can get unscented as well. These boxes make perfect gifts or a nice starter pack for yourself. Her next one will go on sale February/March and I cannot wait!
