Book Collection: Aurora Rising & Aurora Burning

bookishtopics

Hello Readers!

One good thing about books (or bad thing, ha) is that there are now so many editions for books you enjoy. For me, I want to collect but I definitely have a limit on how much I’m willing to spend. Book collecting can get super expensive! I probably should have found a cheaper thing to collect. Oh well, we are here now. 🤷‍♀️😂

I had someone ask me to share my different covers for Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman. I am also going to include the two different books I have for the first book too.

This is probably my favorite one out of the three. I just love the yellow! I’m not usually a big fan of the color but I think it really makes his eyes pop. This one came from Forbidden Planet and is signed by both authors.

I, of course, had to get the regular color because the orange is awesome and I bought this from a shop that was doing sprayed edges. They are just so beautiful! I purchased this one from Bookish_Signs on Etsy. This one came with a signed bookplate.

The blue one comes from Illumicrate. Since they did an edition for the first book last year (see below). I may like the blue more than the orange but honestly I just love them all! This one is signed by both authors.

The pink version came from Illumicrate. It came in their book box from last year, I believe it was May. I really enjoy the pink! This one is signed by both authors.

The purple one is new from this year. I bought it when I purchased the orange Aurora Burning from Bookish_Signs. I thought I might as well have the original cover for this one too. This one came with a signed bookplate.

border2So yeah, that’s my collection! I’m curious to see what the colors will be for the next book in the series and who will be on the cover.

Have you read these books yet? Do you plan to?

This is a little late today being posted but I have been trying to do last minute things before I leave for the weekend to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Even though it’s only a couple days, I’m still stressing. Why am I like this? Haha.

Anyways, today is all about books set in space and honestly, I haven’t read many. This list will be short and sweet!

1.) The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

2.) Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

3.) Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

And there you have it! I said it would be short but trust me, these books are fantastic!

Disney Book Tag

book tag.png

Hello, Fellow Book Lovers!

Today’s post is a book tag that was created by Kat @ Katytastic and if you click the link it will direct you to her youtube channel which is great!

I have seen this tag a couple of times and since I love all things Disney I decided why not!

The Little Mermaid- A character who is out of their element
The first one that came to mind is Arsinoe from the Three Dark Crowns series. I am not going to say why because *spoilers* but she really does fit into this category!

Cinderella- A character who goes through a major transformation
Bella Swan goes through a physical transformation and even though it may be physical it also changes how she has to live her life as well.

Snow White- A book with an eclectic cast of characters
Aurora Rising fits this so well since the squad is filled with diverse characters. Definitely a great group of people!

Sleeping Beauty- A book that put you to sleep
Three Dark Crowns was very slow and I am glad I listened to it instead. I am also glad I gave the rest of the series a shot because it did get better!

The Lion King- A character who had something traumatic happen to them in childhood
Asha from The Last Namsara.

Beauty and the Beast- A beast of a book that you were intimidated by but found the story to be beautiful
I can’t think of one for this!

Aladdin- A character who gets their wish granted, for better or worse
Katherine from Three Dark Crowns.

Mulan- A character who pretends to be someone or something they are not
Veronyka from Crown of Feathers.

Toy Story- A book with characters you wish would come to life
A Court of Thorns and Roses is definitely my top pick. I love them all!

Disney Descendants- Your fave villain or morally ambiguous character
AIDAN from The Illuminae Files. He is just awesome!

And that’s it! I really loved this tag. If you do it let me know so I can check out your answers.

Book Gizmo Unboxing

banner

Hello!

Today I am sharing the May box from Book Gizmo. It was my first purchase with them and I was really happy with it.

Book Gizmo sells booksleeves, bookbands, and has a monthly box. I haven’t tried out their bookbands yet but their booksleeves are great quality.

The May box was themed around Sci-fi’s like The Illuminae Files and Aurora Rising. There was one item in it for Red Rising, one book that I haven’t read. They are priced at $25.00 and I believe shipping was around $3-$4. So really, you get a lot for that price! I would definitely buy from them again.

Items:

  • metal Bookmark
  • 2 sturdy bookmarks
  • booksleeve
  • print
  • enamel pin
  • washi tape

Aurora Rising: NetGalley Review

thegeekishbrunette review

30075662

Title: Aurora Rising
Author: Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Genre: YA Sci-fi
Publication Date: May 7th, 2019
Rating: 5 stars

I received a digital copy from Penguin Random House through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

->Click for Synopsis<-

These authors have become near and dear to my heart after I fell in love with The Illuminae Files that they also wrote together. I recommend that series to everyone because it is amazing! When it was announced they were writing another book together I was so excited! This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and even though it is getting closer to release, I am so grateful I had the opportunity to read this early. It reached above and beyond my expectations!

Welcome to Squad 312! Where the good times keep on rollin’, sarcasm is always welcomed and the banter never ends. This squad consists of Tyler, Scarlett, Cat, Kal, Finian, and Zila. Tyler may have received some recruits that were the bottom of the barrel but he will learn that they may have a lot to offer when shit hits the fan and they find themselves on a wild ride with a girl named Aurora.

One thing that I loved about the characters is that they each have a different personality and background. It is easy to relate to one or more for different reasons and even if you can’t relate they have personalities that reel you in! They make it so easy to feel like you are a part of the squad!

When it comes to relationships, there are a couple times that you think certain ones in the squad will get together and then you realize nothing is as it seems. I am not going to say anymore than that because I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that I have a new book boyfriend and his name is Kal. I am here for him, okay!

There are great references to Middle-Earth and a character Jrr Tolkien created that everyone loves. It was a surprise and a fantastic one at that! So, if you aren’t really a fan of sci-fi but you love elves you should definitely pick this book up and be introduced to space elves because they will have you dreaming about them.

Kaufman and Kristoff never disappoint when it comes to their writing. They bring their characters and worlds to life and as a reader I find myself being swept away with ease into these worlds they create!

I absolutely loved this book and if you are a fan of the authors or want a book with a daring heist, a group of hilarious misfits, and crazy twists that will make you have an emotional hangover than this book is for you! Check it out and go preorder!

March Wrap-up

monthlywrap-up

Hello, Fellow Book Lovers!

It is crazy to think that March is already over with and we are moving onto April! Where does the time go? Seriously. I didn’t get my tbr list done but that’s okay. I am still away from on vacation and with a different schedule it is hard to find time to read. I am just glad I got what I did done.

For the month of March I read 11 books, 1 manga, and 1 graphic novel. I would say that is pretty good! Most were NetGalley reads and I still have a lot to read from there so that is what April will consist of.

5 stars:
Yona of the Dawn Vol. 16 (Manga)
Aurora Rising
Four Dead Queens

4 stars:
Crown of Feathers
Two Dark Reigns
One Dark Throne
Beware the Night
The Phantom of the Opera

3 stars:
The Sword and the Dagger
Sky without Stars
The Art of Taxidermy

2 stars:
Mera: Tidebreaker
Ever Alice

A few of these were audiobooks since I was helping my mom with her cleaning business and it helps to pass time! Some of these already have reviews up on my blog and others will be added within the next month!

Have you read any of these?
