I am honestly not sure why I hadn’t started this book sooner but I really should have! This is a prequel to the Dark Shores series and it’s one that I never knew I needed.
The book is told through three point-of-views: Marcus, Agrippa, and Silvara. I enjoyed getting to know Marcus better after meeting him in Dark Shore. It shows what kind of guy he has been from the beginning and I liked seeing a bit more backstory. Let me just get it out of the way and gush over Agrippa. He is funny, loyal, and is really swoon worthy. What a guy! Silvara is more of a tricky character when it comes to how I feel. I understand her decisions but it doesn’t mean I accept them, ha.
As with any book about war, the plot can get tense at times. There is definitely a lot of death and there was a couple that hit me so hard! I wasn’t prepared. At least there are comedic reliefs in between otherwise I would have been a mess through it all.
I am glad that I have Gilded Serpent as an arc because the cliffhanger was crazy and I need more information! I am hoping that there will be some answers in the book.
Overall, this was a great book! It had me hooked from beginning to end.
