Title: Daylighters (The Morganville Vampires #15)
Author: Rachel Caine
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publication Date: November 5th, 2013
“While Morganville, Texas, is often a troubled town, Claire Danvers and her friends are looking forward to coming home. But the Morganville they return to isn’t the one they know; it’s become a different place—a deadly one…
Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.
It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.
Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end.” (Goodreads)
I have finished the series overall! All I have left is the short stories. This has been a journey.
This book starts off right where the last book left off. As always, there is a power struggle between the humans and vampires, but this time it has to do with a group called the Daylighters. They were introduced in the last book a bit but this one is where we get more information about them and their fearless leader.
A lot of questions I had from the last book were also answered in this one and I was right about one thing. I did wish that it panned out a bit more from it but at least how it ended was okay too.
I did think that a few things were too convenient and I honestly wish the author would have left Michael as a vampire. It’s just hard to believe that the cure didn’t work on literally any of the vampires besides him. I guess at least he gets his happy ending. 🤷♀️
*End of Spoilers*
Claire, Shane, Eve, and Michael have been through so much and it was nice to see them happy in the end. Their relationships haven’t always been easy and they definitely deserve some peace, for however long it lasts. Haha.
My favorite character development from the series has to be Myrnin. He has grown so much and I will miss him and his bunny slippers. Even though he has been a madman for most of the series, you got to see the better side of him throughout the last few books and you can tell he has finally felt remorse for his actions.
It was good to see old characters come back one last time too in hopes of saving Morganville.
Overall, it’s been a fun ride and I actually enjoy a majority of the books. There were only a couple that I felt meh about so that’s pretty good for a long series. Vampires are one of my favorite paranormal creatures so I am looking forward to finding more books to read with them in it.
